iPad 3 vs. iPad 2

The new iPad 3 has been on the market as from 16th march 2012. The tablet has great advancement when compared with its predecessor. Most of the features are just advancements to the features that were already in the iPad 2. The new iPad has a great look and better performance. We are going to look at how the features differ from the previous version to the new version. The iPad 3 maintains the same size of the iPad 2, the only difference is the weight, and the new tablet weighs 1.44 pounds as compared to the predecessor which had a weight of only 1.34 pounds. 

Display and resolution of iPad 3 vs. iPad 2

The iPad3 has better screen resolution giving the user greater experience. The iPad 2 had a resolution of 132dpi and a display of 1024×768 while the iPad 3 has a resolution of 264dpi and a display of 2048×1536. This is double the size of its predecessor. This means that the resulting display is almost two times better.

 

Processing and memory. iPad 3 vs. iPad 2.

The iPad 2 used an A5 processor while the iPad 3 uses an A5X processor. The processing speed is almost the same. The difference is that the A5X processor has better graphics processing which gives the reason for better graphic handling. The iPad 3 though higher RAM capacity of 1GB. There is no difference on the internal storage capacities in the iPad 3 as it gives the same storage variants of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB unlike it was rumoured on the possibility of a 128GB capacity memory. The iPad 2 was powered by IOS 4 while the iPad 3 is powered by IOS 5.1.

The iPad 3 has a battery life of 10 hours which is many hours more than the iPad 2. This is because the iPad 3 has battery energy of 42.5 watts while the iPad 2 had battery energy of 25 watts.

Other features

The iPad 3 had a 5MP camera which has capabilities of recording picture qualities of 1080p while the iPad 2 has a basic camera with 720p. Both version have the capabilities of recording high quality video only that the new version records images oh higher quality. The iPad 3 supports 4G internet connection while the iPad 2 supports 3G. All the other wireless capability which includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are the same in the two tablet versions. Both versions lack expansion slots but have support for cloud computing. The cloud computing gives access to more application and storage which we can access remotely without straining the available resources.

When the two versions are placed side by side, the iPad 3 has more power as expected and has enough reason to swap to it if you are using the iPad 2. The better graphical display and battery life is tempting if you are always on the move and need access to your work and still be out for long hours. For the 4G connectivity, few providers’ use iPad 2 and its reality is still in doubt so does not become such a great issue. You can clearly view the screen of the iPad 3 at a further distance as compared to the iPad 2.
