Thanks to some info from Samsung Mobile Romania’s Facebook page we found out that the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread in the very near future after a small pre update with the Android 2.2.1. Along with the Galaxy S, Samsung has not forgotten about its mid level Android running smartphones, the Galaxy 3 and the Galaxy 5. Both of these lower end phones will get the now old (but still way better than the Android 2.1 Éclair) Android 2.2 Froyo Update. Find out more about when to expect these updates by reading below.
Even though the Samsung Galaxy S is now an old handset, with a successor just around the corner (in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S II), it seems that it will still get one last update in the form of a nice Gingerbread. We have to say that there a lot of handsets out there that haven’t and won’t receive even a single update in their lifetime but the Galaxy S will get two. The smartphone first started out with the Android 2.1 Éclair and then, after a very long wait, got an Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade. I believe the Galaxy S will be the second phone along the HTC Desire to get two major updates.

Translation: Here are some news about the upcoming upgrades to your Android running smartphones. The 2.2.1 upgrade for the Galaxy S will be available until March 20 and the Gingerbread update will roll out until the end of March. The Galaxy 3 will get the Froyo update in the coming week (14-20 March). The Galaxy 5 will get the Froyo update near the end of the month (sooner than March 31). You can view the message right here.
Personally I never thought Samsung will upgrade the Galaxy S to Android 2.3 after the very long wait and confusion caused by the Froyo update but it seems Samsung wants to earn some public sympathy by upgrading one of the best selling Android smart phones to date. You can read more about the differences between the OS version in the article entitled Android 2.2 Froyo vs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Before the official 2.3 update is released, the Samsung Galaxy S will get a minor update to Android 2.2.1 on the 20th of March. Following this update the Gingerbread goodies will reach the smartphone by the end of the month. As a fact, this update comes very soon after the Nexus One Gingerbread update.

Samsung Galaxy Upgrades
The other two mid range phones that are getting an update, the Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 are sure in for a treat. We do not see many older generation mid range smartphones getting updates but it seems Samsung has decided to prolong the life of these two. The Galaxy 5 will be the first to get the Android 2.2 Froyo update as the start date of the OTA will be the 14th of March. Its sibling, the Galaxy 3 will get the Froyo update a bit later, possibly at the same time the Gingerbread update rolls out to the Galaxy S.
These update dates are probably specific to Romania but you can expect them to come very soon regardless of where you live so keep your fingers crossed and keep looking for the OTA update.
