ASUS Eee Note EA800 release date and price

Asus has announced a couple of days ago some new information about the Eee Note. They have given us an approximate launching day and some prices that the device will have. The Eee Note EA800 release date will be this week in Taiwan, and they announced that the e-book reader will hit Hong Kong in early December, and also Germany, Italy and Russia at the end of the year or in the first weeks of 2011. The United States and China will receive this device in the first quarter of 2011.

The Asus Eee Note EA800 is more a computer than an e-book reader. It has an 8 inch display with 3:4 aspect ratio, XGA and a resolution of 768×1024. It runs Linux operating system, it has a memory of 4 GB ROM and microSD card support up to 16 GB. It has a 2 MP camera, a mono 1 Watt speaker, a microphone, a micro USB Port and a 3.5mm Jack for earphones. It also features the usual, yet very necessary, WLAN 802.11b/g connectivity. The battery can support up to 13.5 hours of operating time is the wireless is off, while it can go up to 10 days in stand-by mode. Among other features, its Microsoft Office can capture handwriting done with the supplied stylus and it also provides internet access to information sources like Wikipedia and e-book retailers. The internet connection can be made either using Wi-Fi or connecting the device to a PC by its USB port.

Asus also announced an Eee Note EA800 price. They say that at its launch in Taiwan, it will cost around $228. I think that this device is affordable to almost everyone and it’s quite a useful little gadget. My opinion is that it will be a big hit on the eastern market, but I have doubts that it will impress western customers.
