CDMA iPhone 4 for Verizon rumor catches a release date: early 2011

We’ve all heard rumors, earlier in June, that a Verizon iPhone would emerge sometime in January 2011. Well, it seems that many are convinced that this will really happen. The big news is finally here, Apple has given the “OK” for mass-production of the famous smartphone by the end of 2010. To be honest, it was bound to happen sometime, if we take a look at the huge success the whole iPhone madness has had. We can say that this is a kick in the butt for Android. The Verizon iPhone 4 release date has now been backed up by WSJ and NYT.

Some Verizon iPhone 4 specs can be said. It seems that the new version will be built by Pegatron and it will run on a CMDA network only. It’s been said that it will also use a Qualcomm chip and it will run iOS , of course. Many think that the Verizon iPhone will use only an EVDO-based 3G for data. It’s unlikely that they will introduce the LTE 4G iPhones because the network will only reach to 36 cities and the LTE chip occupies extra space and consumes extra battery. Both Apple and Verizon didn’t exactly confirmed that this phone will become reality, but they didn’t deny it either.

Regarding the Verizon iPhone 4 release date, now rumored by two of the most famous journals out there: Wall Street Journal and New York Times, it was bound to happen. People needed a confirmation, so here it is. First of all, WSJ says that Apple is preparing an iPhone 4 model for Verizon, which will be seen in Q1 2011. The actual quote states only that an CDMA iPhone 4 version is in the works, but not related to Verizon. Two hours later, the author changes his lines, relating the model strictly with Verizon.  The next day, a New York Times insider, with direct access to Apple labs, claims the same thing, along with a chip change from Qualcomm.

I think this is a really good move for Apple. Although they stated that the CMDA network is outdated, they kept it so they can expand their market at Sprint and, especially, Verizon, where Android seems to have an enormous success, and promote one of their greatest devices. Also, I hear that Apple is preparing a new iPhone model, the 5, but we don’t know if this one is related with Verizon or not. One question is now in almost everybody’s head, will the Verizon iPhone beat the AT&T’s white iPhone 4? It remains to be seen.
