This following guide is intended for HTC Droid Incredible 2 users and although it has been tested by numerus people some bugs or hitches may occur so be really careful not to stray from the instructions. The ClockworkMod recovery is a must have for almost any Android handset owner out there, as it can simply make your life a lot easier. Without futher to comment let’s move to the interesting part.
1. What is ClockworkMod Recovery?
Every Android handset out there has a little bit of software called a recovery. This recovery can most easily be explained as a way to issue commands to the smart phone on a low level, without the actual need of using the Android OS. Simply stated, the most common computer equivalent software would be MS Dos, which could be used even without logging into Windows. In Android running handsets, the standard recovery does not contain the usual functions needed by the rooted community and as such a custom one has been developed. The ClockworkMod recovery allows users to perform several actions like clearing the cache or the extra ext partition on the SD card, and even fully backing up your phone with a NANDroid backup.
The NANDroid backup feature is simply a one click complete backup of the entire phone. It makes something like a system restore point so that you can always revert to the same condition of the phone regardless of what has gone wrong. The other nice feature is the restore option which allows you to use these backups at any given time, and allows users to simply change between one custom ROM or another. Before you go and follow the guide below note that we are in no way responsible for any damage or bricks that might occur to your phone from following this guide.
2. Installing the ClockworkMod Recovery:
In order to install this nice little software called ClockworkMod recovery you will have to follow these steps:
2.Select the files adb.exe and adbwinapi.dll from the ADB folder and copy them to a folder easy to find. This folder will be C: for this guide.
3.Download the file from here and extract it to C:
5.Copy the downloaded image from the ClockworkMod website to C: (or copy the Droid Inredible 2 specific recovery you just extracted, cwm-recovery-vivow, to C:)
6.Boot your Android device intro fastboot. This can be done on most handsets by powering the device off and then powering back on while holding the volume down button on the side. You may have to disable another option called fastboot from the phone before powering it off if you are using a newer HTC device.
7.Open the Command Prompt from Windows and type without the quotes: “cd C:\”. Then type: “fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery_image_you_just_downloaded.img” and when it is done type: “fastboot reboot”.
8.The last step involved installing the Superuser and Busybox applications and it can be done by installing a root friendly ROM or by flashing this file from ClockworkMod recovery (use caution as this file was originally made for HTC Droid Incredible 2).
After all these steps you should have succesfully installed ClockworkMod recovery manually and you can start enjoying the full access to your Android running smart phone.
