Rumor: Bing to join the battle over iPhone / iPad / iPod default search engine

This came a couple of hours ago directly from TechCrunch, were rumors start like fire and end up in the confirmed section. The web 2.0 based website states that they have multiple sources saying that Bing will enter the competition for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch search bar. This sources include high rank staff members, which have already been briefed on the situation. This could mean a pretty big step for the top 5 ranked search engine but also a jump in the shark’s tank.If somehow Bing wins the battle their traffic will explode. Why?

Because not all users care about which search engine brings them what they want, so big chances are that they will not change the default page. That means credibility amongst people and huge exposure. On the other hand, the rumor that Bing will take over the iPhone search function sounds pretty fairish to me. It’s like David versus Goliath, but now against two of them: Google and Yahoo. With the latest Yahoo investments in commercials and publicity, where they make a bit fun of Google’s home page, they will not lose a huge chance like this. Don’t get me wrong, Google is great, but Yahoo is the one that wants expansion like a crazed addict.
